first timer seeking the usual advice
« on: May 09, 2016, 12:28:15 PM »
Just joined this forum and seeking advice having used Rogue Killer (free version) several times, mainly over the last few days, from discovering it on the bleeping computer.

Should point out that although a computer user since the apple 2C I am still technically ignorant and not proud of that.

I am seeking assistance with an issue that, from what I have read browsing the forum, is one of the most common reasons- suspecting my computer may have a virus or something. I scanned with Rogue Killer, MWB, Combo fix, which seem to provide some improvement - but Rogue Killer throws up the same problems are again identified on the following days(s) - so far about 5 scans. The most apparent problem with my computer is that it started to suddenly stop (crash) during booting and subsequently when a rapid change in the graphics is triggered. A week ago I pulled it apart, replaced the thermal grease and thoroughly cleaned out the fans etc. with no improvement except the fans are much quieter. On a cold start it tends to crash at the input of the first instruction unless carefully nursed by inputting when it is inactive - if I succeed in getting the email and browser up and running, it tends to stabilise until an input requiring a big boost in graphic movement sends it crashing. In addition I am finding some functions stop working such as deletion in windows 7 live mail - in short it has become quite unstable. At this stage I am becoming rather desperate to clarify if it is a software or hardware issue - and would be very grateful for any advice/suggestions.

Hi Curzon,

It has taken me a while to respond - I was informed my version of Rogue killer was out of date, so I installed the newr versin before scanning. Then I received an update of windows 7 which I let install itself. The reports are of the scan just completed after the updates.

Hi sankaido,

I don't think your issues are malware-related.
The root cause seems to be your graphic card, but it's not quite easy to say if it's software or hardware fault.

Regards.

Thanks Curson - did I send you a report ? If so, it was a fluke.
Just as a laymans comment, the reasons I was wondering if my computer crashes is a software issue is that (a) some of them occur within seconds of my switching it on (b) others are clearly triggered when some of the programs open, and one group of associated programs with which this was occurring automatically asked if I wished to try again in safe mode - when I did this, these programs all opened without crashing.
I will try asking the graphics card maker if they can help.

regards

Hi sankaido,

No, you didn't. :)
If you wish, you could copy/paste it and I will analyze it.

For the issue you encounter with the graphic card, you could try to completely uninstall its drivers using the Windows control panel, then do a full reinstall with the latest one you can downloaded from Nvidia's website.

Regards.

Hi Curson

Thanks a lot for your suggestions regarding the graphics card - I will do that right after this.

Regarding the report - I found the scan reports which are in the .json format. I copied/pasted the latest report but got a message saying it is to long to post. I have obviously missed something ?

regards

Hi sankaido,

You are very welcome.
If the report is too long to be copy/pasted, please include it your next reply using the "Attach" feature of the forum.

Regards.
