RK Crashing & Will Not Update
« on: February 23, 2016, 09:17:35 PM »
Hi,

I've sent the crash file "to the developer", along with my e-mail address the two times my RK program has crashed, but I never hear anything back as to why it's happening. It has crashed again today.

It's odd... when I was using the free program, I NEVER had any problems. Then out of a sense of fairness that I should probably pitch in some money, I purchased the program. Since then, nothing BUT trouble. RK doesn't update automatically. and it has NEVER once updated without crashing. What I mean when I say "crashing" is, the program will update (sometimes it will, sometimes it won't), but then it shuts down. It doesn't not open the dashboard. And yet, if I try to open the dashboard, a sign pops up, "RK is already running". But it isn't.

Very odd indeed. Can anyone help me?

Many thanks,
Lyn

Hi Lyn,

Welcome to Adlice.com Forum.
Thanks for supporting our product.

We recently made a few changes in the Updater that breaks compatibility with older RogueKiller versions.
Could you please download and manually install RogueKiller latest version ?

Regards.

Hi and Thanks for your reply!

I'm a follower of your Facebook page, so I saw your announcement that Adlice is coming out with a new version 12 next week. Should I wait to download THAT version, or will RK automatically update to that version all by itself.

Also, before I follow your instructions, should I uninstall the version I have now, or does it not matter??

Thank again,

Lyn

Hello,
I am answering instead of Curson to go faster on this (feel free to continue with him after that if you have more questions).

You don't need to wait for version 12, it will show up as a new update once it will be pushed on the production channel (it's currently still in beta), so don't worry about that.

Also, the installer will take care about uninstalling previous version, so just follow the steps of it :)

Hi Tigzy and thank you for your reply!

I downloaded the program using the link Curson provided. The program will not open. So I tried right clicking and doing "run as..." and a sign popped up "Access Denied".

Still stuck, sorry! Should I try the Free Version??

Thanks,

Lyn

Hi Lyn,

Do you use security software featuring restriction policies (IPS, anti-exploit, etc.) ?
If that's the case, please disable them before executing the installer.

Regards.

Hi Curson,

I have safe-uninstalled SuperAnti-Spyware and turned off Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Then I re-booted. Then, just to be certain I was running a clean computer, I ran the MS Virus Repair Tool, doing a deep scan which took almost 6 hours. No infections. I then uninstalled RK version 10 and re-booted.

After all that, I tried installing the current FREE version, just to see if it would work like the other free ones always used to. It downloaded, but would not install. Same thing with my paid subscription version, which I tried to download next. It would not install.

I have no clue why this is happening.

Will this be fixed in Version 12, and isn't that supposed to come out this week (not the beta)?

Thanks, Lyn

Hi Lyn,

This is really strange. I'd like to verify something :
Please download Rkill and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable your anti-malware software, then please right-click on rkill.com and select Run As Administrator.
  • A black screen will appear and then disappear. This means that the tool has been successfully executed.
  • An Rkill.log will appear. Please attach it with your reply (file also located at C:\rkill.log)
  • If nothing happens or if the tool does not run, please let me know in your next reply.
Then, download and install RogueKiller latest version. At this time, it's version 12.0.1.
Does that make any difference ?

Regards.

Hi Curson,

No such things happened:

"A black screen will appear and then disappear. This means that the tool has been successfully executed.
An Rkill.log will appear. Please attach it with your reply (file also located at C:\rkill.log)".

Again, the download appears to be successful, but the program will not load. Re-booted in Safe Mode, signed as Admin, program would not install. I even changed my admin password (from the "run" command), re-booted, and tried again. No success.

The only thing I have is MS Malicious Malware Removal Tool, Windows Firewall and MalwareBytes AntiMalware (which I again disabled today, to run these functions). I'm running Firefox 43.0.1 on windows XP, SP 3. Clean machine here.

I am stumped (which, admittedly, is easy to do!).

Best,

Lyn

Hi Lyn,

Let's try another thing.
Please download renamed Rkill and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable your anti-malware software, then please right-click on eXplorer.exe and select Run As Administrator.
  • A black screen will appear and then disappear. This means that the tool has been successfully executed.
  • An Rkill.log will appear. Please attach it with your reply (file also located at C:\rkill.log)
  • If nothing happens or if the tool does not run, please let me know in your next reply.
If the tool don't run :
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (x86) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please attach log back here.
  • The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe). Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.
Regards.

Hi Lyn,

Rkill didn't detect anything.
Could you please follow the process involving FRST ?

Regards.

Hi Lyn,

Your computer is not infected but some services seems to be damaged.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system !

Run FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

How is the computer running now ? Are you able to install and run RogueKiller ?

Regards.
