Recurring infections no matter how many times I delete them
« on: October 06, 2015, 02:43:46 PM »
Recently no matter how many time I run Rogue Killer the results show the same PUM's and Rootkit Infections no matter how many time I delete them they keep recurring.

Attached is my last Rogue Killer Log.

1. How may I get rid of these infections?

2. If they are not infections why do they show up on the log?

Thank you

Hi Lewis,

Welcome to Adlice.com Forum.
Your report is clean.

PUM stands for Potentially Unwanted Modification. In your case, thoses entries are perfectly legit and necessary to access Internet.
For more information, please read RogueKiller Documentation.

The IAT hooks are legit and necessary for Chrome proper functioning.

Regards.

Curson:

It is puzzling to me why legitimate functions would need to appear when utilizing the Rogue Killer Scan insofar as a novice such as myself (and presumably others) would have know means readily at their disposal to differentiate between these legit items from those which are ever pesky malware in need of removal.

Also, prior to several days ago when running Rogue Killer these legit functions did not appear so I am not certain why they would suddenly rear their benevolent heads.

In any event thank you for the clarification.

Hi Lewis,

System modifications listed by the Antirootkit are for INFORMATION ONLY. They cannot be checked for removal because they are not the malware itself, just a consequence of a possible malware infection.

This said, some module are linked to Avast Antivirus.
Did you install / update this software recently ? Or Chrome ?

Regards.

Curson:

I do use Avast Antivirus as well as Google Chrome Browser.

To my knowledge I have not initiated an update to either Avast Antivirus or Chrome.

Whether or not either and an automatic update that occurred beyond my initiative I am sorry but I simply do not know.

Thank you for your prompt and professional responses.

Hi Lewis,

You are welcome
Those hooks may have been added by an automatic update of Avast, it's difficult to say.

Regards.
