Thanks for letting me know that the UCheck change log is actually visible. My problem with viewing the change log appears to have been due to some unusual behavior of an extension on my Chrome browser. I found that the problem was not present when using a different browser and that it went away in Chrome after switching to incognito mode and then returning back to normal mode.

P.S. The HWiNFO download page (hwinfo.com/download/) is quite clear that the v7.73 is a beta release (portable only) and that 7.72 is the current production release for both the installer and portable editions - screenshot attached. HWiNFO is a UCheck compatible program and the update to the installed edition could be used to identify an update to the portable edition without having to do it separately and introducing the possibility of a false (beta) detect and a delay due to waiting for community feedback.

Hi dking02:

A bit off-topic, but this must have been a temporary glitch on the Adlice website.  I'm fairly certain the latest v5.3.1.0 change log was posted at https://www.adlice.com/docs/ucheck/release-notes/changelog/ when I checked on 08-Mar-2024, and I just browsed there again and can still see that change log (see attached image).

UCheck / UCheck v5.3.1 Incorrectly Recommends Update to HWiNFO Portable v7.73 BETA
« Last post by lmacri on March 09, 2024, 05:18:24 PM »
I am currently using the latest stable release of HWinFO Portable v7.72.5355 (released 05-Feb-2024; see release notes at https://www.hwinfo.com/version-history/) that I run from a removable USB stick.

As of 09-Mar-2024, the latest UCheck Free Portable v5.3.1.0 is incorrectly recommending I update to the HWinFO Portable v7.73.5380 BETA, which is the BETA version currently offered at https://www.hwinfo.com/download/.

Please see the attached image of my UCheck Updates tab and my full UCheck scan log for 09-Mar-2024.

Here is an excerpt from the latest scan log:

UCheck / UCheck v5.3.1 Bug - New Text in Filter Button Truncated
« Last post by lmacri on March 08, 2024, 05:01:40 PM »
I am using UCheck Free Portable v5.3.1.0 (released 08-Mar-2024) on a laptop with a 15.6" screen.

According to the change log for v5.3.1.0 at https://www.adlice.com/docs/ucheck/release-notes/changelog/ one of the changes made in the latest version is "Added filtered count in filter button (installed / updates tabs)".

The text on that filter button is now truncated (see attached image) unless I maximize the size of the UCheck interface so that it fills my entire screen .

I'm not sure why adding this extra text to the filter button was even necessary when the Installed tab already shows the number of hidden programs (e.g., Portable - Showing "24/28").  The UCheck interface is already cluttered with unnecessary information (e.g. like the total amount of disk space used by my Installed and Portable programs on the Installed tab) and search links (e.g., for outdated Community apps on the Updates tab) and I feel the interface would actually be improved if it were simplified.

EDIT:

A bug report has now been filed on GitHub at https://github.com/AdliceSoftware/UCheck/issues/39.

UCheck / Re: Microsoft Edge (32-bit), version 120.0.2210.77
« Last post by lmacri on March 07, 2024, 02:53:02 PM »
... Is this still an issue with UCheck 5.3.0 ?

Hi @Tigzy:

If you are asking if Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime are still reported as 32-bit applications then the answer is Yes.The good news is that UCheck is only recommending updates for stable releases of my Edge browser (i.e., UCheck is not recommending unwanted Insider Preview or other BETA builds).

I'm currently using 64-bit UCheck Free Portable v5.3.0.0 on my Win 10 Pro v22H2 machine.

An image of the Installed tab of my UCheck interface plus scan and debug logs for today (07-Mar-2024) are attached.

Just note that I didn't receive an automated email notification yesterday that this thread had been updated, so I'm not sure if other users subscribed to this thread have read your latest post yet.

UCheck / Re: Sysinternals Contig 1.83
« Last post by dking02 on March 06, 2024, 08:25:45 AM »
UCheck seems to display the embedded file version of the .exe file rather than the program version when listing the version of a portable program. The file version and program version may be different and one or both may be missing in the resource data of the .exe file. The file version seems to be the better choice in general for matching the true version of a portable program (as listed in the About display, title bar, or opening screen of the program, etc.) although not in the particular case of Sysinternals utilities - see examples of portable programs below. For portable programs, there is no external source of program info like the uninstall data in the registry used by UCheck for installed programs.

Some examples of version data for portable programs.

Program, True Version, File Version (displayed by UCheck), Program Version - Remarks
1. Sysinternals Contig, v1.83, 1.8.3.0, 1.83 - program version matches true version
2. Sysinternals Coreinfo, v3.6, 3.6.0.0, 3.6 - program version matches true version
3. Malwarebytes AdwCleaner, v8.4.2, 8.4.2.0, 8.4 - first three digits of the 4-digit file version matches true version and is more exact
4. Patch My PC Updater, v4.5.0.4, 4.5.0.4, 0.0.0.1 - file version matches true version and program version is not even close

Hi 00Eraser00,

Thanks for your feedback. It's rare to see editors that use different prod version and binary version tags.
Could you please submit it as a new issue on UCheck Github Repository ?

Regards.
