I scan and delete viruses but they keep coming back. What am I doing wrong?

After a scan I delete the viruses found, but then they return when I reboot.

I run a scan and it shows the report of trojans and pups and so forth and I delete them. But they show up again when I restart my computer. How do I get rid of the viruses?
