Title: Waht does this path mean?

Roguekiller kills 2 processes on a friends PC showing

STOPPED Suspicious Path aswEmHWID2 \??\C:\Windows\Temp\aswEmHWid.SYS
STOPPED Suspicious Path ALSsIO \??\C:\Users MICHAE~1\AppData\Local ALSysIO64.sys

What does the \??\ at the start of the path refer to as I am unable to locate the files shown?

Hello
These are services started from temporary location. They are not uninstalled, don't worry.
Just stopped until next reboot.

\??\ is UNC path, that's internal to windows, just skip them and just write C:\stuff

Thanks for the reply, however when using the path without the UNC part I was unable to find the .sys files shown, with hidden and system files visible.

Any suggestions on how to actually delete them, assuming they do exist?

I'm pretty sure it was dropped by another program at the time you did the scan, then removed by that program.
That seems logical since it's in temporary folder
